Melissa Nicandri Memorial Fund

The BHA and Councilmember Lincoln Restler are helping the friends and family of Melissa Jane Nicandri to memorialize her life and her love of Brooklyn Heights by collecting donations for a tree guard and memorial plaque to be placed in front of her former residence on Henry Street, and for a dedicated bench on the Promenade through the NYC Parks Adopt-a-Bench program.

Melissa passed away on January 29, 2025, at the age of 28 years in an American Airlines airplane crash in Washington, D.C.

Melissa’s boyfriend shared that, “Melissa loved Brooklyn Heights, and her favorite book was A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. We think a memorial tree guard outside her apartment and a dedicated bench on the promenade would be a fitting tribute to her spirit and the place she called home. We hope these spaces will offer a quiet place for reflection and remembrance.” On behalf of Melissa’s family and friends, we thank you for your contribution.
