As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, we want to say how grateful we are for this amazing community! Ours is a neighborhood where so many give their time and energy to help make Brooklyn Heights the incredible place that it is. The year has really flown by, and as we start to look back, we're proud to have accomplished so much! At the start of 2024 we brought new, rat-proof waste containers to the Promenade entrances. In May, we revived the beloved BHA Dog Show after a 9 year hiatus, and expanded our on-going support of Open Streets on Montague with a first-ever Pickleball tournament in the fall! Years of street-safety advocacy finally paid off with new stop signs on local streets and traffic-calming measures on Atlantic Avenue. We launched a brand-new video series called My Brooklyn Heights, an oral history initiative highlighting some of our most interesting neighbors. This fall, we celebrated our fourth biennial Brooklyn Heights Designer Showhouse, a critical fundraiser for our organization that brings together so many members of our community from local designers and sponsors, to all of those who visit and volunteer at the house. And of course, our BQE advocacy work continued unabated - highlights from this year include coalition building and the launch of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway Environmental Justice Coalition, and a successful effort to prevent federal funding from supporting NYC DOT's misguided cantilever expansion plans. We are a small staff here at the BHA, supported by a dedicated Board of Governors. But there's no question we could not do what we do without your support. Financial contributions and time commitments from our members, supporters, and volunteers are key to our success. Please help us continue our work in 2025 and beyond by donating to our Annual Appeal. We also welcome your help with implementing new projects in the coming year, so please reach out with your ideas! We wish everyone a safe, happy and healthy Thanksgiving season. We hope you can spend this time with people who are important in your lives. |
