Our annual Spring into Service event will be held on Saturday May 4th from 9am to 4pm. Here is where we need your help: PROJECTS Clean up Hillside Dog Park; 9am-1pm @ Hillside Dog Park. Bring your dog (or not) and join volunteers to spread some wood chips, help care for trees and remove trash. No sign up required. Spruce up PS8; 10am-12pm @ 37 Hicks Street. Volunteers are needed to help with some ad-hoc projects including assembling furniture and sorting books. Sign up for a one-hour slot here. Take Care of our Neighborhood Trees; 10am-12pm meet @ 45 Monroe Place. In partnership with Council Member Lincoln Restler and Big Reuse, volunteers will clean out tree pits, weed, cultivate soil with compost or mulch, and sweep tree beds along Monroe and Pierrepont Street. Sign up here. Stock the Community Fridge; 10am on @ 124 Henry Street. It takes a village to support a community fridge. Sign up to clean out and help stock ours. Build Furniture for Asylum Seekers; 1pm-4pm @ St Ann's Church. Sign up to help build and pack up IKEA furniture to be distributed by Ruth's Refuge. This project also needs funding to purchase and transport the furniture. You can donate directly to The Service Collective. Have access to a moving truck? Please email Amanda. IN-KIND DONATIONS Donate Books, Clothing and Gear for babies and children 10am-2pm @ Pierrepont Playground (Pierrepont Place side.) We are collecting new and gently-used books (appropriate for children and youth ages 0-18 years) and children's supplies (for babies through 5 years old) to support our partners Brooklyn Book Bodega and Little Essentials. Please check our webpage for details on what we can and cannot accept. Fresh Direct bags also welcome. Donate Diapers online - Little Essentials is in urgent need of diapers. You can purchase them (and some other items) directly from their Amazon Wish List. Thank you to DUMBO Moving and Storage for delivering these items to their new homes. |
