With the Primary Election only weeks away, the BHA is excited to share this announcement from Brooklyn 50. We hope you'll sign up and attend! ATTENTION ALL NEW YORKERS: If you are reading this, you are already - relatively speaking - a high information voter. You care, you read the news, you talk to friends, you have opinions and you can probably name four, maybe five of the candidates running for Mayor? And chances are you actually voted for the big structural changes that are making this one election so crowded and also so consequential. Term limits, more generous public financing and ranked choice voting were all the result of ballot questions in the last few years, and they are all intended, in one way or another, to break through the broken machinery that is city politics and give us a more direct say in our government. But even high information/high propensity voters like us have so much to learn to be truly prepared for the June 22 primary.
So with the help of Citizens Union and RANK THE VOTE NYC, we’ve organized this one-stop Zoom event — Thursday, April 22 at 7:00 pm There are two big topics we’ll cover: 1. RCV - Ranked Choice Voting. On June 22 when you go vote in the primary, your ballot will have a large grid with spaces to select and order your first FIVE choices for mayor, city council, etc. How does it work, is there a strategy? We have invited expert Sean Dugar from RANK THE VOTE NYC to walk us through the process and answer our questions. And we'll all have the opportunity to try it out on our own practice round live on the call. 2. We are going to need to know a lot more about a lot more of the candidates than we usually do. We cannot wait to be fed information from mailings, robocalls, and radio and TV ads and then just go with our guts on election day. So we have invited Rachel Bloom of Citizens Union to introduce us to a magnificent new tool they have created: an easily searchable non-partisan site with all the candidates in all the districts, all the issues — everything we need to know before we walk in to vote. So come on Thursday, April 22 at 7:00pm - and bring your friends, family and any questions you have.
