By now many of you have heard the fantastic news that Books Are Magic, one of Brooklyn’s most beloved independent bookstores, is opening a second location on Montague Street!
 
You might remember that 80% of people who took the BHA's online survey in December 2020 asked for a bookstore on Montague. We heard you loud and clear. In early 2021 we got to work reaching out to several bookstores, including Books are Magic, that we thought the community would love to see in our neighborhood.

It's gratifying that our numerous cold calls, walks up and down the street with brokers and budding entrepreneurs, and dedication to the task are showing such wonderful results. We couldn’t be happier that the Books Are Magic team has decided to join the Montague Street renaissance, and we’re sure that Brooklyn Heights will prove that faith in our neighborhood is not misguided.
 
We're proud to add them to the list of new, small businesses that the BHA has played a direct role in bringing to our neighborhood, among them Inga’s Bar on Hicks Street, Le French Tart Deli on Henry Street, and L’Appartement 4F on Montague Street.
 
And that’s not all. More of our recruitment efforts will soon be coming to fruition!

A new restaurant, Taboonette, will take over the former 5 Guys location on Montague, and the Brooklyn Women’s Exchange will return to its roots on Montague Street in the fall. 
 
Our partnership with the Montague Street Business Improvement District has never been stronger as we work together to support businesses both old and new, organize ribbon cuttings, provide connections to city agencies, the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and elected officials, and help with promotion and marketing through the BHA’s new Neighborhood Partners program.
 
All of these efforts require a dedicated board and hard-working staff, both of which the BHA is lucky to have! We rely on the generosity of the community to support our staff and our initiatives.
