Neighbors, As we enter into the fifth week of "pause" in the Empire State, we are confronting both encouraging and devastating news. This past Saturday, Governor Cuomo reported that New York appears to be past the plateau as the both the death and hospitalization rates from COVID-19 continue to decline. And yet the news this week that at least 55 coronavirus-related deaths have been reported at the Cobble Hill Health Center is heartbreaking. The BHA stands in solidarity and grief with our neighbors in Cobble Hill -- and we thank Rep. Nydia Velázquez for leading a bi-partisan group of 24 NY Members of Congress to call for more federal funding for nursing home facilities. Congresswoman Velázquez was also able to arrange for the delivery of 500 N95 masks to the Cobble Hill Health Center. We continue to update the COVID-19 information and resource page on the BHA's website. New this week is a link to a Financial Survival Toolkit created by the NY State Comptroller's office, as well as information from our friends at Brooklyn Bridge Parents about local mask makers (including masks for children.) Heights and Hills is delivering meals to our older neighbors and checking in with clients to help with their emergency needs and has volunteer opportunities available for this Thursday, April 23rd. Click here if you can help. As many of you know, every night at 7pm, New Yorkers across the city open their windows or take to the rooftops to clap, cheer, bang on pots and pans, whistle, and shout for those putting their lives on the line to keep the city going and to keep us safe.
Let's #ClapBecauseWeCare in Brooklyn Heights. We'll be listening for you tonight! |
