Thank You Irene and Welcome Kim!
 

There have been some staff changes at the BHA recently, including the retirement of Irene Janner and the hiring of our first Deputy Director. 

Irene Janner first volunteered on the BHA Board of Governors in the 1980s and later joined the BHA staff working with executive director Judy Stanton. During Peter Bray's tenure and then with Lara Birnback, she held the role of bookkeeper -- but it was her deep knowledge of neighborhood issues and her experience as a member of Community Board 2 which made her contributions truly invaluable. Irene has now taken a well-earned retirement, and we will miss her positive attitude and warmth. Thank you for your many years of service to the community, Irene!

Kim Glickman, Deputy Director

Kim joined the BHA this May, and you might have already seen her in a green vest helping out during the Montague Open Streets.

A resident of Brooklyn Heights since 2004, Kim's first home was right across the street from the BHA office on Pierrepont Street (she should have seen that as a sign of things to come!) After leaving her job at American Express and starting a family, Kim dove head first into volunteer work at PS8, including serving as co-PTA President amidst a school rezoning effort, and as VP of Fundraising. 

Over the past 5 years, Kim has worked in a variety of consulting positions primarily in recruiting and fundraising. She lives on Monroe Place with her family, which includes her oversized goldendoodle, Lucky (pictured here), a certified therapy dog. Kim is excited to meet even more people in the neighborhood, support new businesses opening in Brooklyn Heights, and partner with stakeholders across city government to continue to improve quality of life for the broader community. Welcome Kim!
 
Lara Birnback, Executive Director

Lara has been the BHA's Executive Director since July 2019. Her professional experience spans work in the U.S. public, nonprofit, and international development sectors as a project leader, trainer/facilitator, and communications specialist. Immediately prior to coming to the BHA, she served as the Director of Capacity Building Initiatives in the Neighborhood Development Division at NYC Small Business Services. 

She has also lived and worked overseas, supporting civil society activists and organizations in East/Central Europe on behalf of the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs and as a communications specialist for the United States Agency for International Development in Nairobi, Kenya.

Lara has lived in Brooklyn Heights since 2005 with her husband Nick, her daughter Thalia, and dog Frankie. 
 
Katherine Davis, Membership Director

Katherine joined the BHA staff in 2017. In addition to overseeing membership and tending to the BHA website, she handles the BHA's graphic design. Do you remember those posters which took over the neighborhood during the BQE Promenade Highway crisis? Blame her!

Katherine began her career in film production, but after a few detours including raising a family, working as house manager for a billionaire, walking her Beagle, rescuing a stray cat, and a stint at the Brooklyn Heights Synagogue, she is currently splitting her time between 

paper engineering (she invented a functioning paper Rubik's cube), gardening (she founded a community garden in the back of her apartment building on Grace Court) and working for the BHA.

Katherine grew up in Switzerland but has lived in Brooklyn Heights for a quarter of a century.
