The Showhouse is Open!

We had a fabulous opening week at the Brooklyn Heights Designer Showhouse and loved seeing so many of your there - from the Opening Night Party to the Design Night Party to the Opening Run of Show weekend - the house was very busy and it was wonderful to see so much energy and excitement in a home that has been reborn after a 175 year history.

The house is open for visits Thursday-Sundays.  Tickets are $40 for BHA members and $50 for non-members.  Purchase your tickets here and please remember to check the hours for visiting.

Please read below to learn about some fun events happening at the house this month.

What's Happening at Montague Open Streets

We've had some rain-out Sundays, but there are still three more (hopefully sunny) Sundays to go for the fall season of Montague Open Streets.  Here's what's happening:

Sunday, October 11:  Montague Street Hoedown with Square Dancing from 1-4pm. Details here.

Sunday, October 18:  BHA Annual Pickleball Tournament.  Sign up here.

Sunday, October 25: Montague Diner Dog Costume Contest.  Details here.

Plus there are big games, McNeil walking tours, art with Le Meraviglie and pop ups from our local businesses. Read all about it. And remember, Montague Street from Clinton to Hicks Street will be closed to traffic Sundays from 10am-6pm.  If you are parked on those blocks, please remember to move your car so our neighborhood can enjoy the day.

Sign up for Pickleball - this could be you in the Winner's Circle!

Get Ready for World Singing Day + Last Chance to Sponsor a Song

On Saturday October 17, communities around the world will come together in song as part of World Singing Day.  This year, the BHA is proud to bring this event to New York City for the first time!

World Singing Day will take place at noon at the steps to Brooklyn Borough Hall.  We have created a list of songs that we believe honors Brooklyn, our neighborhood, and some musical icons.

We can use your support!  We are looking for song sponsors to help cover the cost of the sound and song books.  Sponsorship is $100 and your name(s) will be printed next to the song of your choice.  Take a look at the song list and email our event chair Bob Yates to request your song and process payment. We need your commitment by next Tuesday, October 13th in order for it to be printed in the songbook.

And the Winner Is.....

American Hagwon has won the vote and will be the book discussed at our next BHA Book Club.  You can purchase your copy with a 20% discount at Books are Magic. Just mention the BHA Book Club.  Books can also be purchased on their website using code BHA20.

Mark your calendar - The group will meet on Wednesday, November 19th at Vineapple.  Tickets will go on sale later this month.

Another Sandwich Making Event in the Books

Thank you to the over 15 volunteers who came out this week to make sandwiches to fill our beloved Community Fridge.  This month's session took place at Zion Lutheran Church, our new fridge host!  It was a fun and productive hour and the fridge was filled with tasty sandwiches for our neighbors in need.  Special shout out to Emma who lead this month's session.

The fridge is also in need of cleaning.  The BHA has signed up to clean the fridge every Monday morning.  If you can spare 30 minutes (there is an empty shift this Monday October 12), please sign up here.

Bakers Needed!
Whip up something spooky (or just delicious) for the BHA Halloween Bake Sale at this year's Halloween Parade.

The parade will take place on Saturday, October 31 (A real Halloween Parade!).  Please sign up HERE by Monday, Oct 26, and drop off your treats at the south end of the Promenade between 10:00 and 10:30 AM on the 31st.

Please wrap treats individually if you can and list major allergens so every little ghost and goblin can find a treat!
