Bastille Day + FIFA World Cup Final at Open Streets

Francophiles and soccer fans, save the date!  

On July 19 from 12 to 6pm, the BHA is hosting a special edition of Montague Open Streets, bringing the community together for a Bastille Day fête and a live viewing of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final. Come cheer, come play, make new friends, and find your neighbors. It’s an afternoon on Montague made for all of us.

Here’s what’s happening on Sunday, July 19, 12 to 6pm. 

Bastille Day Celebration, brought to you by L’Appartement 4F (between Hicks and Henry)
A food and beverage event hosted by L'Appartement 4F with French flair, music, and games taking place in front of the bakery.  Enjoy a Dufour's chipolata sausage, 4F brioche hotdog bun, topped with a generous dollop of creme fraiche and Petrossian caviar (photo below). FIFA World Cup 2026 Final Celebration (between Clinton and Henry)

New York City is welcoming soccer fans from around the world this summer, and the excitement can be felt right here in Brooklyn Heights. Celebrate the beautiful game on Sunday, July 19, 12-6pm on Montague Street. The Brooklyn Heights Association and Montague BID invite you to Watch, Trade, Play, and Shop the game of soccer with your friends and neighbors.

Don't get red-carded! Move your car off of Montague Street before 10am!

Empire Bins Rollout & Information Sessions

The Department of Sanitation is expanding its stationary on-street trash bins (known as Empire Bins) to all of Brooklyn Community District 2. That's means us!  Beginning this fall, all residential buildings with 31 or more units are required to have designated on-street bins (buildings wit 10-30 can also opt-in).  You can read more about the program here.

Enrollment is now open and will close on Friday, July 31.

We know our community has many questions about the program and we encourage you to attend of the information sessions being offered at 6pm tomorrow, Wednesday, July 8 or 6pm on Wednesday July 22. Use the button below to sign up for one of the information sessions. 

In addition, DSNY is planning a pilot program for smaller buildings to join together to participate in this program.  If your smaller building is interested in participating with a neighboring building (s) of any size, please reach out to CM Restler's office at district33@council.nyc.gov. The pilot will require that there are at least 15 units across the participating buildings. Please note the pilot is limited and DSNY will make determinations based on feasibility.

Volunteer to Make Sandwiches on July 13

Looking to give back to the neighborhood? Help fill the Brooklyn Heights Community Fridge! Join the BHA and your neighbors to make some sandwiches. On Monday, July 13th, from 5 to 6pm, volunteers will prepare, wrap, label and deliver over 100 sandwiches to the Community Fridge. The food prep will take place in the BHA conference room, located at 55 Pierrepont Street, 2nd floor.

In order to cover the cost of supplies, we are asking all registrants to make a $10 donation to the BHA's food fund.
