Our Annual Appeal Ends January 31st

Thank you to all who donated to our annual appeal this season!

Donations made to your neighborhood association go to support all of the work that we do to organize and engage our community in making our neighborhood a more vibrant, better connected and sustainable place to live, work and visit.  From leading community events, to nurturing our trees and gardens, to advocating for safe and sustainable solutions to our roadways and all of our public realm, we cover a lot of ground.

None of this "just happens" and it doesn't come as a given with your rent or mortgage payment.  Our small staff and dedicated board rely on your generous financial support to do all of the work we do on your behalf.

Donations of all sizes are greatly appreciated, and if you are able to give $250 or more this season, we will gratefully gift you a limited edition BHA branded coffee tin from our friends at Brooklyn Roasting Company.

 Neighbors Supporting Neighbors

Profound thanks to all who were able to make a financial contribution to those impacted by the fire at 75 Pierrepont Street earlier this month. 

We collected 140 donations in amounts ranging from $10 to well over $2500. Every dollar will support those residents who are struggling to recover. The BHA is currently working with a group of volunteers to finalize outreach to the impacted households and we expect to begin disbursing the funds early next week.

If you volunteered to help with in-kind donations or in-person support, you should have received an email from the Pierrepont Fire Fund as they work to connect residents with these sources of help.

The BHA is proud to be able to serve our neighborhood in this meaningful way, helping donors and recipients avoid the fees and commissions often associated with commercial crowd-funding platforms.

After the Storm

The recent snowstorm brought both fun (sledding!) and some havoc (black ice!) to our city, and Brooklyn Heights was no exception. 

The Department of Sanitation continues to work hard to clear our roadways, but folks with strollers and mobility challenges are suffering through blocked crosswalks and impassible curb cuts. 

We are asking our neighbors to help one another! If you notice the curb cut on your block is not properly cleared, please consider lending a hand (or a shovel) to help make our sidewalks and crosswalks passable.  It takes a village and every little bit helps!

This Monday: Moms + Babies + Coffee

Our next new mom's group is this Monday, February 2nd at 11am at our office. This event is free and open to all new moms for a first-time session.  If you are returning for an additional session, please join the BHA before you register.

Spots are limited, so reserve yours now. 

The session will be facilitated by our Board Member, LMHC and mother of three, Jennifer LaRusso-Leung.

Learn the Value of Giving

Brooklyn Org’s Youth Donor Advised Fund (DAF) Program invites young people under 17 to open their own charitable fund with a starting balance as low as $50, making generosity accessible and meaningful for every family.

A Youth DAF is a powerful way to commemorate holidays and milestone moments by turning a celebration into a lifelong habit of giving. With no minimum contribution required, your child can support causes they care about right here in Brooklyn, while learning the values of empathy, leadership, and community responsibility. And for parents, there’s an added benefit: eligible contributions may qualify for a tax credit.

Calling All Artists!

NYC DOT is looking for artists to participate in two exciting projects.  Both applications are due February 8:

Eligible artists are invited to submit proposals in response to a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the opportunity to display an art installation at an NYC DOT Signature Event, namely Car-Free Earth Day or Summer Streets.

Interested US-based artists are invited to submit past work examples in response to a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the opportunity to develop and install temporary murals on asphalt pedestrianized spaces, bike lane barriers, and other sites.
