We hope everyone had a restful and joyful holiday season. We are grateful for the time we had to recharge with family and friends, and are excited to dive into everything that 2026 will bring -- for the BHA, that means a variety of advocacy efforts, community events, and public realm projects across our neighborhood.

We are can't wait to bring back many of the greatest hits from 2025 including The Longest Table, the BHA Dog Show, Montague Open Streets (in partnership with the Montague BID), the Egg Hunt, BHA "After Hours" gatherings and more. We're equally excited to be introducing some new events including our monthly Coffee+Babies+Talk, our first ever BHA Book Club, and a Board Game Sunday, all three happening this month!

In addition to the many community gatherings, we will continue to spend time advocating for issues big and small that effect the quality of life for our neighborhood including the BQE, safer streets, small business support, expanded pedestrian space, sanitation and more!

The Brooklyn Heights Community Fridge, currently located at 124 Henry Street in front of First Presbyterian Church, needs a new home.

For the last several months, The Service Collective, the BHA, and a group of  community members named "Friends of the Fridge" have networked with local houses of worship, schools, businesses, and government agencies to figure out a new host site. We have come close several times to finding a new home, but nothing has been secured.

Please join us for a discussion about the role of this important resource in our community. Learn about who relies on the fridge, share your experiences, and engage with neighbors on ideas for a new host location.

Winter blues settling in? Join the BHA and The Brooklyn Strategist on Sunday, January 25 from 3-5:30pm for some friendly competition.  Hosted at St Ann's Parish Hall, the afternoon will offer classic and modern board games for ages 8-108! 

Bring your family, invite your neighbors, and join us for a warm and welcoming community gathering!  Coffee and hot chocolate will be supplied by Joe Coffee.

Tickets are $10/player for BHA members and $15/player for non-BHA members.

Community Boards are the most local unit of New York City government, and the gateway to direct, nonpartisan civic participation. The 59 Community Districts of NYC are autonomous, non-Mayoral City agencies authorized by the City Charter for “planning of community life within the city, the participation of citizens in city government within their communities, and the efficient and effective organization of agencies that deliver municipal services”. 

Each District is managed by a City staff, and represented by a Board of 50 local volunteers who apply for a two-year appointment by their Borough President and City Council Members. 

Our Community Board (BKCD2) serves 163,100 residents and stakeholders of Downtown Brooklyn, Boerum Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Fulton Ferry, DUMBO, Vinegar Hill, Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, and the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

The BHA annual meeting will take place in late February or early March at First Unitarian Church.  We will send a Save the Date at soon as it's confirmed.  All are welcome to attend this public meeting to learn about our work. Refreshments will follow the meeting.
