Pull out those costumes and get ready for one of our favorite events of the year - the BHA Halloween Parade.  

The parade will take place this Sunday, October 26 beginning at 11am sharp. Parade-goers should meet at the north entrance of the promenade - top of the ramp just north of Orange Street.  We will march the full length of the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and end by Remsen street and the BHA Halloween bake sale!

Attention kids - let's bring some music to this year's parade.  All instruments welcome!

Bake Sale!  We would love as many baked-treats as possible.  Please sign up to bring treats to our table between 10:30 and 11am. All proceeds go to benefit the BHA and the many community events we organize throughout the year.

Last Sunday was filled with music, acrobats and lots of compost!  Kudos to the Montague Street BID and to CM Lincoln Restler for helping to coordinate a great day on the street. 

And thanks to all of you who donated warm winter clothes to the Clothing Drive, organized by Spread Love Brooklyn and Team TLC NYC! Thanks as well to St. Ann's Church and all of the people who donated blood to the New York Blood Center.  The Blood Mobile collected 38 life-saving donations which will help save the lives of 114 patients in local hospitals.  We'll flip for that!

To enter your dog, simply stop by the diner before the start of the contest.

Attention Drivers!! Montague Street will be closed to traffic from 10am-6pm on Sunday between Clinton and Hicks Street.  Please be a good neighbor and move your car by 10am on Sunday.  Thank you for your help in enabling our entire community to enjoy a car-free afternoon.

AM New York reported last week that on October 15th, Mayor Adams sent a letter to Federal Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy requesting that the Federal government publish the Notice of Intent to begin the environmental review process for the "BQE Central" portion of the Brooklyn Queens Expressway that includes the Triple Cantilever by November 14th, 2025. 

The BHA, our partners in the BQE Environmental Justice Coalition, and our local elected officials were caught off guard by this questionable move, and we remain steadfastly opposed to beginning an EIS at the end of an outgoing mayoral administration and  locking in plans that the incoming administration will not have had adequate time to evaluate or review. Even more galling is that the scoping meetings and public comment period for such a monumental project would take place over the winter holiday season - from Thanksgiving through just shortly after the New Year when public participation will be extremely limited. 

The public has heard nothing from the city about this process since December 2024, when the city held two meetings to present a high-level outline of the EIS process. These meetings were poorly attended and lacking in substance.

In June of this year, the BHA and the BQE-EJC sent a letter to the Governor and the Mayor requesting a halt to the process and reiterating our call for immediate and substantial short-term repairs to the Cantilever to ensure its safety and stability while a more comprehensive and corridor-wide plan is developed. Instead, the city and the state have insisted on barreling ahead with a process that denies thousands of New Yorkers the opportunity to repair generations of harm caused by the BQE and to bring about a cleaner and greener future.

We thank our city, state, and federal representatives (Restler, Reynoso, Gounardes, Simon, Velasquez and Goldman)  for their advocacy on behalf of our communities in the form of a letter sent on Monday to Governor Hochul and State DOT Commissioner Dominguez asking for a pause in the start of any EIS process citing the reasons listed above along with others. 

We will keep our community informed as this news develops. 

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  Domestic Violence affects all people regardless of age, gender, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, race, religion or nationality.

In partnership with the Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence, Grace Church (254 Hicks Street) will host an educational and awareness raising discussion on Sunday, October 26^th  from 12:30PM-2PM.
