Our 2nd annual Montague Open Pickleball Tournament was a smashing success!  15 teams signed up and played over 20 matches on Montague Street throughout the afternoon. The teams (and their fans) filled the street with an incredibly fun energy!  We hope the serious players (and all those who tried their hand on an open play court) enjoyed the ability to play America's "Fastest Growing Sport" on a car-free Montague Street.

This Sunday, come to Montague Street for a Day of Wellness - free classes (both on the street and in studio) brought to you by GoodDay Pilates, GTHR Yoga, WundaBar, Orange Theory Fitness, Heatwise Yoga and SLT. Many other businesses will be on the street offering ways to be a healthier you. 

At 1pm, bring some good vibes to your pet and join the Blessing of the Animals, which will be held in front of St. Ann and the Holy Trinity Church.

Don't forget - Montague Street will be closed from Clinton Street to Hicks Street from 10am-6pm on Sunday.  Please be sure to move your car so that we can all enjoy the day. Thank you!

Join CM Restler, the BHA Tree Team, and your neighbors for a morning of tree care.  We will be clearing refuse from tree beds, weeding, cultivating soil to break up compaction, adding mulch, and planting daffodil bulbs. This event is great for people of all ages. Please wear comfortable clothes appropriate for the weather and closed toed shoes. Sign up.

This fall, The Service Collective will once again accept new or gently used Halloween costumes (any size, any age) to benefit Safe Horizon. Drop off at St. Ann and the Holy Trinity Church (enter on Montague Street) anytime between 8am-5pm on weekdays from September 29 through October 14. Costumes will be delivered to kids impacted by domestic violence, helping them to have a Happy Halloween!

Since November 2024, all NYC residential buildings with 1-9 units have been required to use 55-gallon-or-less Individual Bins. This fall, Brooklyn CB2, which includes Brooklyn Heights, will join West Harlem as the second Community District in NYC to have an Empire Bin pilot for large residential buildings. 

The Brooklyn CB2 pilot will begin with installation at a limited number of schools in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill. In 2026, all schools and high-density residential buildings with 30+ units within the district boundaries will be outfitted with Empire Bins. 

How does this work? 

800-gallon Empire Bins are placed in the roadway instead of the sidewalk. They are accessed with key cards assigned to building superintendents, and emptied using automated, side-loading trucks. 

Buildings with 10-30 residential units will have a timeframe to either opt in to Empire Bins or continue using Individual Bins. During the pilot, there will be no cost for Empire Bins.
