Last Sunday the street was filled with amazing artisans displaying their crafts as well as runners from across the city completing a 13.1 mile run with their final pastry stop at L' Appartement 4F.  Both blocks were filled with energy, creativity and community - it was a great Open Streets day for all!

This Sunday, the much-anticipated Montague Open returns!  We have 16 teams registered to battle it out on three regulation-sized courts.  The tournament will begin at approximately 12 noon.  Come cheer on the teams and see who will win some serious pickleball bragging rights and prizes from local merchants as well as some favorite Pickleball venues.

Not registered for the tournament?  Have no fear - there will be an open play court set up for anyone to play a pick-up game, as well as a kids-sized court.  Both of these courts will be located on the Hicks to Henry block of Montague Street.  And once the tournament is over, all of the courts will be available for open play.

Remember - Montague Street from Clinton to Hicks Street will be closed to traffic this Sunday from 10am-6pm.  Please move your car so we can set up the courts and everyone has room to play.  Thank you for your support.

Our neighborhood trees give us shade, beauty, and cleaner air — and with a little help, they’ll keep thriving for years to come. This fall, there are plenty of fun ways to learn more, get involved, and even adopt a street tree of your own. Here are two hands-on opportunities coming up in our neighborhood:

Oct 4, 10am–12pm – City of Forest Day: Join Council Member Lincoln Restler and your neighbors for tree bed maintenance: weeding, soil cultivation, mulching, and planting daffodil bulbs. All tools and supplies will be provided. Volunteer here.

Oct 19, 12–3pm – Compost Giveaway on Montague St: Register here to reserve your free bag of compost. Add it to your tree bed, garden, or planters.

For several years there was a “medical office" operating out of 142 Joralemon Street that failed to follow proper policies for dispensing medication. Clients of this office caused significant quality of life and safety concerns for neighbors, local students and the broader community.

The BHA worked alongside CM Restler's office and other elected officials to drive awareness of this problem with the authorities and we are happy to inform you that the business was finally evicted last month. We are grateful to CM Restler as well as the NYPD, federal prosecutors, and the building’s landlord, who helped to rid this problematic business from our community.
