If you have been on Montague Street recently, you have seen that the upgrades we shared earlier this month have begun! DOT has added new corner curb extensions at Hicks St., Henry St., and Clinton Street and new mid-block curb extensions between Hicks St. and Clinton Street.
In the next phase (happening this week and next) DOT will update parking and loading regulation signage between Clinton St. and Hicks St. and add flexible delineators to the perimeter of the curb extensions.
Finally, in mid-August, we will be installing public seating, bike corrals, and planters in the corner and mid-block curb extensions.
We are very excited about these changes as we are confident they will improve visibility and safety for vehicles and pedestrians, better manage commercial loading and delivery needs, and expand and improve public space for pedestrians and cyclists on Montague Street. You can view the full plan as approved by Community Board 2 here.
While we had hoped to have the street furniture delivered as soon as the street itself was altered, changes in schedules have made that impossible. We ask both for your patience as Montague evolves over the coming weeks, as well as your cooperation to not park in the curb extensions. We're working with our partners as quickly as possible and can't wait to reveal the new Montague Street at the end of August.
