The BHA Dog Show is this Sunday!  On June 1st, our neighborhood dogs will compete to win the hearts of our judges across eight categories including Best Hair, Best Dressed, Best Trick, Best Ol' Pal and Most Iconic Duo. 

Registration has been extended until 5pm today (Friday). Spots are still available for all categories except Most Adorable (under 25 pounds) and Most Adorable (25-50 pounds). Don't think so seriously about the competition - this is a friendly neighborhood event and everyone is just excited to see the dogs get their time in the sun (or hopefully the shade!)  We will have music, prizes, fun giveaways and will be selling raffle tickets for a chance to win a free one-hour training session with Dogboy NYC!

The Dog Show isn't all that's happening on Montague Open Streets this Sunday - it is a day fully dedicated to our canine pals!  Here's the full line-up:

12pm - Celebrate with Sami in front of Pet Emporium as he receives a Small Business Award from Councilmember Lincoln Restler's office.

12-3pm - Pet Psychic Readings.

12:30-3:30 - Pup Cups at the BHA Table.

1-4pm - Obstacle Course.

2pm - BHA Dog Show.

3pm - Blessing of the Dogs with Canon John of St Anne's and the Holy Trinity Church.

All Day - Shop at Gone to the Dogs, Photo Ops at the Doggie Photo Booth and at the Mobile Mutts table, talk to some great dog-dedicated nonprofits: The Good Dog Foundation, Animal Care Center, and Friends at Hillside Dog Park; meet our new neighbors at Good Vets, chat with the author of DogScapes.

NO PARKING ON MONTAGUE - Please remember to move your cars off of Montague Street between Clinton and Hicks Street by 10am Sunday morning so that all the dogs can enjoy their day.

Thanks to advocacy from concerned neighborhood residents, local elected officials and other neighborhood advocates, DOT has recently committed to implementing some short and long term improvements to the streetscape around Van Vorhees Park to improve safety and connectivity. 

These improvements will include building out painted pedestrian space in concrete, shortening crossing distances for pedestrians and upgrading a stop sign to a traffic signal at northbound Columbia Street and the BQE exit slip lane.  DOT will also be working with the NYPD to deploy regular, targeted, truck enforcement at Atlantic Avenue and Hicks Street, as well as along Columbia Street.

The New York Blood Mobile will be back at Montague Open Streets Sunday, June 22nd.  There are currently over 50 slots still available between 11:15am-4:45pm.  One pint of blood can save up to 3 lives.  Sign up to donate now.
