Montague Open Streets returns for the spring this Sunday with a Wellness + Workouts Day.  Enjoy free classes, expert tips and more on our car free street.  Sign up for classes from Gthr Yoga, Wundabar, SLT and Heatwise Yoga at this link + practice your golf swing and meet other businesses on the block.

There are a lot of great activities coming up this spring, including Brooklyn Bridge Parents Spring Fling on May 18 and Dog Days (including the BHA Dog show) on June 1st.  See dog details here.  Registration for the dog show will launch next week!

Parking Reminder:  Montague Street between Hicks and Clinton will be closed to traffic Sundays from 10am-6pm.  Please be kind enough to move your car by Sunday at 9am so that we can all enjoy the open street. Violators may be towed! 
 
That's a Wrap for Spring into Service!

Thank you to all of the volunteers and donors who made this year's Spring into Service event a great success!  We collected lots of books and baby supplies which were brough to Brooklyn Book Bodega and Little Essentials, resptively.  We also had volunteers cleaning, organizing and mulching and generally giving some TLC to our public spaces at PS8, Hillside Dog Park, Chapin playground and the surrounding street trees.

5 Boro Bike Tour Sunday May 4  
Avoid Traveling by Car! 

Heads up, wheels up! The 5 Boro Bike Tour is happening this Sunday starting at 7:30am and there will be significant traffic impacts in and around Brooklyn Heights and across the city.

Please plan to take public transportation if you need to get around town!

Parapet inspection is now a yearly requirement! As there has been a lot of confusion about parapet inspection requirements our local elected officials are hosting a virtual information session with the Department of Buildings to cover everything you need to know about the new rules.

Provide Input to Our Urban Forest Plan

New York City is developing its first Urban Forest Plan and your feedback is critical to its success.

All New Yorkers age 18 years and up are encouraged to complete this brief questionnaire to ensure the City is addressing the unique needs, concerns, and strengths of all our neighborhoods and communities while equitably expanding the city’s tree canopy to 30%.

Remembering Brooklyn Heights Resident,
Melissa Nicandri

As we shared earlier this year, the tragic plane crash in Washington D.C. in January took the life of Brooklyn Heights resident Melissa Nicandri.

Melissa loved Brooklyn Heights, and her favorite book was A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Melissa's family and friends would like to honor her life with a memorial tree guard outside her former apartment and a dedicated bench on the promenade. 

We are helping to raise $3,000 to fund these tributes to Melissa. More details and how to donate here.
 
Last Call for the Perennial Party

Next Tuesday, May 6th from 6:30-8:30pm is the BHA Perennial Party - our annual fundraiser to celebrate the professional gardeners and neighborhood volunteers of the Promenade Garden Conservancy. 

Proceeds from the event help support the many ways the BHA makes our neighborhood a more beautiful, connected and sustainable place to live, work and play. 

Enjoy wine and nibbles, and entertainment generously provided by the talented Tom Stewart and Maureen Kelley Stewart, who will be performing a collection of nostalgic and quirky Brooklyn-centric songs.
