Rain, rain, please go away by Sunday!  Due to the forecast, the BHA Egg Hunt has been moved to Sunday, April 13th at 10:30am SHARP! Latecomers will not be guaranteed eggs as the bunnies only have so many to hide. 

Remember, given this event's popularity, the egg hunt will take place in two different locations:

Little bunnies 3 years and younger should report to Harry Chapin Playground.

Children 4 years and older should head to Pierrepont Playground.

Families with children in both age groups can choose which hunt to attend.

If you miss the eggs, you can still celebrate with our bake sale! 

We could still use some baked goods for both playgrounds.  And, now that we've moved the date, it's possible we may have some cancellations for managing the table.  Please take a look and sign up where you can.

Spring into Service is back on Saturday, April 26th.  This is a great day to give back to our community and meet some of your neighbors.  Here is how you can help:

Donation Collection - Donate books, baby & children's supplies, non-perishable food, and dog & cat food.   Please review our webpage for details on what types of donations will be accepted. All donations can be brought to our collection site outside of Pierrepont Playground between 10am-2pm.

Participate in a hands-on activity - We have volunteer projects running at Harry Chapin Playground, Hillside Dog Park, Cadman Plaza, PS8 and many surrounding tree beds on those blocks.  Check out our website for the details. Some activities have sign up links so be sure to register.

Bring our e-waste to Emily Warren Roebling Plaza - Brooklyn Bridge Park is hosting an e-waste collection. The BHA has a few cartloads of items that need to be brought down between 10am-12pm. We are looking for for 3-4 volunteers. Email us if you can help!

Subway surfing (riding on top of a moving subway car) by teens has occurred in New York City since the 1980s and the city has struggled to prevent this dangerous activity.  With the recent rise in deadly outcomes from subway surfing, the city is now trying a new tactic - go to the source. 

The NYPD is asking high school students  (grades 9-12) "If you could be 'Police Commissioner for a Day,' what steps would you take with MTA officials to prevent and deter young people from participating in 'subway surfing'?"

Essays are due by Friday, April 25th.  Here's a chance to come up with an impactful change for our city. See details here.

Preventing rats in tree beds - a few very simple steps

Submit a rodent complaint online through 311 and what happens to that complaint  (hint:  it's not ignored!)

How to control pests safely - It doesn't stop at rats, here is a comprehensive guide on ridding your home of mice and roaches.

The Department of Transportation announced the implementation of new safety improvements to be implemented along Atlantic Avenue between Furman St and Columbia St this month:

- The addition of a pedestrian refuge island at the Furman Street intersection.

- Expanding the size of the existing slip lane island at the Columbia Street intersection.

- Adding signals to the slip lane to give pedestrians dedicated crossing time.

- Installing audible pedestrian signals.

We're happy to see these improvements, which were first announced last year, finally happening. The BHA continues to work with our elected officials and other community organizations to urge DOT to meaningfully and holistically address the dangerous and unpleasant conditions between Hicks Street and Brooklyn Bridge Park due to the BQE on and off ramps.
