If you are parked on Montague Street between Hicks and Clinton Street, please move your car by 10AM this Sunday so that all can participate in the day

Also this Sunday, the Department of Transportation will be sharing proposals to calm traffic, improve the environment for pedestrians, and support Montague Street as a thriving retail corridor.

DOT will be on the street to solicit YOUR FEEDBACK on possible changes to make the intersections safer and create more pedestrian space.  These concepts are the culmination of work which began back in 2020, when the Brooklyn Heights Association began engaging our community and planning professionals  around public realm issues. 

Please stop by the table, review the concepts and provide your feedback to DOT representatives so that we can move forward in the most informative way possible to implement improvements on our neighborhood commercial corridor. The BHA will also be at the table to hear your thoughts. 

It's the halfway mark for the run of show at the Brooklyn Heights Designer Showhouse.  Have you visited yet?  If not, come see firsthand the extraordinary talent of our 2024 designers. Discover the transformation of a windowless cellar into a modern media room that  "evokes the feeling of an old-time movie theater" (ADPRO, 9/27/24).  Find the secret lounge in the Midnight Study, amidst "sumptuous colors and fanciful geometries of the Viennese Secession", one of the many rooms that "demonstrate the creative energy that thrives throughout the borough and defines Brooklyn cool" (1stDibs, 10/4/24).

Why does the Brooklyn townhouse still capture our imagination after 180 years?

Join Showhouse Co-Chairs Ellen Hamilton and Erika Belsey Worth in conversation with Ravi Kantha (Serhant Real Estate) Lindsay Barett Barton (Douglas Elliman Real Estate) and Michael Ingui (Ingui Architecture) on the brownstone legacy and how architects and realtors are adapting historic homes to modern living.

This event will take place on Tuesday October 28th.  A tour of the Brooklyn Heights Designer Showhouse will begin at 6pm followed by the panel discussion at 6:30pm. Buy your ticket here.

We are in need of volunteers to staff the house for a few shifts over the remaining weeks.  Volunteers are responsible for directing the flow of visitors, overseeing visitors in their assigned rooms and answering basic Showhouse questions.

October 26th - Last day to register to vote (online or by mail).  Apply online here. Applications must be received by this date to be eligible to vote in the General Election. If you need an absentee ballot, request it here by October 26th.

October 26th through November 3rd - Early Voting. Learn about early voting and find your polling site.

If you are voting by mail, make sure your vote counts: 

Put your ballot in the mail ensuring it receives a postmark no later than November 5th OR drop off your ballot to an early voting poll site between October 26 and November 3rd OR drop off your ballot to an election day poll site on November 5th no later than 9pm.

Ballot Proposals

On the back of the General Election ballot are six ballot proposals.  Please take some time to review these proposals, including Proposition 1, which protects abortion rights, and provides LGBTQ+ and anti-discrimination protections.

The MTA recently announced that the completion date for the escalator replacements at the High Street (A/C) station in Brooklyn is now anticipated for Q1, 2025 . The extension of this completion date is due to existing field conditions that required design enhancements to the escalator machine room. Dates are subject to change as the work progresses. Revised signage will be posted at the station as well as online on the MTA website.

Starting this Tuesday until about Tuesday October 22nd, the NYCDOT will close one lane on the Queens-bound BQE from Atlantic Ave. to Cranberry Street. During the right lane closure, the Atlantic Ave. entrance ramp to Queens-bound BQE will also be closed. These closures are required for milling and paving of the repaired sections of the BQE (I-278) and are dependent on weather and field conditions.
