Learn the secret to the delicious chocolate chip cookies found at our favorite French bakery on Montague Street. Join the BHA and Gautier Coiffard of the viral sensation L'Appartement 4F on Tuesday, October 8th at 3pm for a tutorial on his baking secrets.  The cookie lesson will take place in the gorgeous Brooklyn Heights Designer Showhouse kitchen designed by Ingui Architecture and BIA Interiors.

Afterwards, enjoy a guided tour of the Showhouse by our Co-Chair Ellen Hamilton. All guests will receive a chocolate chip cookie treat at the conclusion of the event.

Pickleball at Montague Open Streets this Sunday

Pickelball is back this Sunday on Montague Street!  While our tournament is currently full, there will be one court reserved for open play.  Bring your paddle or borrow ours and try your skill at this game that's taking over the nation (or at least our borough!) 

Not a pickleball player?  Come watch the action on our tournament courts as players compete for bragging rights + a prize pack of goodies from WundaBar, Barry's, Chama Mama, GTHR Yoga, Books Are Magic, James Weir, L’Appartement 4F, and European Wax.

But, there's more than just pickleball happing at Open Streets. Join St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church for a special Blessing of the Animals at 1pm in front of the church (157 Montague Street).

Also, enjoy Chama Mama's Lemonade Stand and Sundaes at L'Appartement 4F plus the Montague Sip Spot for your adult beverage enjoyment.

Weekly Heads Up! Montague Street will be closed Sunday from Hicks Street to Clinton Street beginning at 10am.  Please move your car by then so we can enjoy the tournament and the open space!

Parapet Inspection Notices

Many of you may have noticed these official-looking flyers around the neighborhood this week noting that  “Parapet Inspection is Mandatory”  by December 31, 2024 under a new law. A parapet is any type of wall or cornice that extends above a roofline.

While it’s true that newly enacted Local Law 126 requires parapet inspections (to protect pedestrians from falling debris), these flyers (distributed by a contractor) are misleading because they leave out the portion of the law that includes the exceptions.

Specifically, that the requirement does not apply to detached 1- or 2- family homes or buildings with a fence or other barrier preventing access to the exterior wall.

You don't necessarily need to hire a big or expensive company to prepare the inspection report.

Welcome Sam Rogers to Clover Hill

Brooklyn Heights restaurant gem Clover Hill has a new Executive Chef, Sam Rogers. Rogers takes the helm of the kitchen this month, replacing the much lauded Charlie Mitchell who left in July.

NYC Trash Bins

Beginning November 12th, buildings with 1-9 residential units will be required to put their trash out in 55 gallons or less trash bins with secure lids. You can use your own bins or purchases these official NYC Trash Bins.  You won’t be required to use the official bins until June 2026.  


For those of you who are replacing existing bins, we strongly encourage you to find a new home for you old ones. Right now the best option is to try to give them away on a local facebook group, such as Buy Nothing.  If you can’t find someone to take your old bin, you can put it out on your recycling day with a note that says “for recycling.”
