Montague Open Streets Returns

 

It was a magical day on Montague Street as Opens Streets returned for the fall season. The street was filled with over 40 activities that had both kids and adults entertained for hours.  Thank you Brooklyn Bridge Parents, Mommy Poppins and the Montague BID for putting together such a fabulous day.

And thank you to all of the Montague Street businesses who came out to celebrate with the community, including Books are Magic, the Brooklyn Women's Exchange, Heights Aesthetic Laser and Chama Mama (pictured below) who set up a table of delicious bites.

Next Sunday, September 22nd, enjoy a quieter day of car-free streets.  City Chemist will be launching an early fall sale (10% off of everything except prescriptions) and Chama Mama and L'Appartement 4F will be back with their lemonade stand and sundaes respectively.  Kids can play in the game zone and adults can grab some food and beverages from local businesses and enjoy them in the Montague Sip Spot.

As Always: Cars parked on Montague Street between Clinton and Hicks need to be moved by 10am so that we can enjoy the space and open streets. Thank you!

Brooklyn Heights Designer Showhouse
Opens to the Public Next Friday!

We are excited to welcome you into the fourth Brooklyn Heights Designers Showhouse next Friday!  Started in 2017, this biennial event offers a rare opportunity to visit a historic home in Brooklyn Heights while discovering the work of cutting-edge designers, blending old with new Brooklyn chic.

Here's what you should know:

Visit the House - The Showhouse will be open from Friday, September 27th through Sunday, November 3rd from 11am-7pm (Thursdays until 8pm).  Tickets can be purchased in advance here or on-site at the door.  Not a BHA-member yet?  Take advantage of 50% off your first year of membership when you purchase a Showhouse ticket. Volunteering at the House - We rely on the generosity of volunteers to staff the house during the run of show.  Volunteers help to direct the flow visitors and answer any basic design questions.  In appreciation of your time, volunteers will receive 2 tickets to visit the Showhouse. We are specifically in need of volunteers for opening weekend (Sept 28-29.)  Sign up for a shift here. 

Take a Group Tour of the House - We offer private group tours for a minimum of 10 people on Mondays and Tuesdays.  For more information, email us.

Celebrating 120 Years of the NYC Subway System

In October 1904, the city opened it's first subway line, from 145th Street to City Hall. The New York Transit Museum is set to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the city's subway system with an exhibit titled "The Subway Is...".  Highlighting the challenges and triumphs of creating this underground transportation network which is now used daily by over 3.5 million people, the exhibit opens on September 26th.  The museum will also host four innaugrual train rides.  Read more details at the  Brooklyn Daily Eagle  and on the NY Transit Museum website.
