How has the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway personally affected you? Do you know someone who grew up near the highway and can share how it impacted their life and community? 

The Institute for Public Architecture (IPA) is seeking participants for intergenerational audio interviews. These 40-minute conversations are conducted between a storyteller and an interviewer. The BHA is a strong supporter of "daylighting" at our intersections.

Daylighting is practice by which visibility is increased, and conflicts between motorists and pedestrians or cyclists are reduced, by removing parking spaces immediately adjacent to crosswalks. Daylighting is a common sense and inexpensive way to make our streets safer for all users. 

In fact, the practice is required by New York State law, but the City of New York overrides this law. Many community based organizations, elected officials, New York City Community Boards, and street-safety experts are calling on New York City to immediately implement a daylighting policy at all intersections across the city. 

We commend Assembly Member Simon and Council Member Restler for their advocacy on behalf of prioritizing street safety and daylighting. Assembly Member Simon introduced a bill in June which would repeal the NYC exemption and Council Member Restler is currently asking you to submit YOUR priority intersections for daylighting treatment.

In order to support the Borough Hall 4/5 station ADA Project, there will be no 4 or 5 service into Brooklyn the weekends of July 12th and July 19th.  Customers will be able to access the Borough Hall 2/3 station. See the MTA Planned Service Changes for details. 

Insight Film is producing a feature documentary recounting the NYC Blackout of 1977 from different perspectives around the city. The project is directed by Oscar-nominated New Yorker Sam Pollard and will run on a major US network. The filmmakers would like to hear from residents of Brooklyn's Community District 2 who have archival materials (film, audio, photos) from that period and anyone with extraordinary stories.
