What's Happening at Open Streets this Week
 

Lots of fun planned for everyone this Sunday as we pay tribute to the dads (and father figures) in our lives.  Here's some of what's in store:

Street Curling with Brooklyn Curling Center:  12-3pm

Father's Day Special at Chama Mama + a Georgian Dance performance at 1:30

PS8 Junior Theater Performance at 3:30

Plus get free gifts for dads at the Orange Theory Fitness table from 12-5pm

As always the kids game and adult Sip Spot will be out for your enjoyment.

Remember:  Montague Street from Clinton to Hicks Street will be closed to cars from 10am-7pm on Sunday June 16th.  Please remember to move your car by 10am so that all can enjoy the day!

50 people donated blood during the Montague Open Streets blood drive last Sunday, June 9th.  That's 150 lives that will be saved!  But, the New York Blood Center is still facing a blood emergency.  If you didn't get a chance to donate Sunday, find out about eligibility requirements and schedule a time now.

Did you miss the BHA-sponsored talk at the Center for Brooklyn History?

Last month, the BHA and The Center for Brooklyn History co-hosted an informative talk on Elizabeth Gloucester. Born into slavery in Richmond, Virginia, upon her death, Ms. Gloucester was described by the Brooklyn Eagle as “the wealthiest colored woman in the United States.”


The talk was led by New York Times editorial board member Brent Staples (pictured here) and historian and scholar Prithi Kanakamedala.  You can enjoy the conversation from the comfort of your own couch by watching it here.  Thank you to the BPL for providing the video.
 
 A Family-Friendly Adaptation of "The Tempest"

Brooklyn Heights residents David Fuller and Judith Jarosz, co-Artistic Producing Directors of the award winning Theater 2020, have created a 75-minute family-friendly adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest.

Eight performances will run at the ART New York performance space beginning Friday June 14. You may buy tickets here.  There will also be two FREE outdoor performances starting at 5:30 PM on Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30 at the Granite Prospect on Pier 1, Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Tuesday, June 25th, 6pm.  Atlantic Avenue East West Connection Part 2 - Join Executive Director Kelly Carroll and writer and preservationist Suzanne Spellen for a virtual tour of Atlantic Avenue from Bond Street to the border of Brooklyn. Purchase tickets here.
