First, the good news. The long promised repairs to spans 4 and 34 of the BQE deck are going to begin in July. These sections of the BQE, located approximately where the BQE is closest to the end of Grace Court and the end of Clark Street and the Promenade, are among the most degraded parts of the roadway and are in need of immediate repair. (You can see more details about the location and nature of the repair work here.) These repairs will help extend the life of the Cantilever and keep everyone safe while a longer-term vision for the future of the BQE is determined. Now, the bad news. The repair work will take place largely overnight (between 1-5am) and will require up to three weekend closures of the BQE. Some of the work will be noisy and potentially quite disruptive - in particular to neighbors living in close proximity to the spans being repaired. DOT has mitigation plans in place that include sound blankets, air and noise monitoring, and more, but there's no way around the fact that however necessary, this work is going to be disruptive. The BHA is in close communication with the agency and will continue to advocate for clear and transparent communication, regular updates, and is pressing for every possible mitigation measure. We urge you to attend an online information session next week on June 29th @ 6pm with DOT, the BHA and CM Restler to learn more about the upcoming work.
