We are thrilled to announce an upgrade to our neighborhood's waste containerization and rat mitigation efforts just in time for the new year! The BHA, in partnership with NYC Parks and CM Restler's office, has initiated and funded the purchase and installation of Citibin containers at four locations by the entrances to the Promenade. The new containers will be used to hold the garbage collected by NYC Parks from the Promenade itself, which is currently left in bags (see picture above) until it can be picked up. Citibins are rodent-proof and lockable, and have been adopted by many neighborhoods to help improve the sanitation challenges of living in New York City. In fact, you may recognize these containers as they already exist at some locations along Montague Street as well as in private residences around Brooklyn Heights. The four sets of Citibins will be located at the entrances to the Promenade at Montague Street, Pierrepont Street, Clark Street and Orange Street. The modules will vary in size at each location. We are so grateful to NYC Parks for working with us to make this a reality and to CM Restler for his contribution of funding and logistical support. Installation (weather permitting) is scheduled for this Friday, January 5th! |
