Blood Drive on Montague this Saturday
 
Dog Days and Other Open Streets Activities Canceled
 

Unfortunately, with another rainy day in the forecast for Saturday, Dog Days and other planned Open Streets activities have been cancelled. We hope to reschedule some for later this month and look forward to having our Dog Days return in spring 2024!

However, one important initiative has not been canceled!  

Due to the blood shortage in NYC, the New York Blood Center mobile will be on Montague Street Saturday, October 14 from 11am-5pm. Be a good neighbor. Donate blood and save up to 3 lives.

And, if you donate on Saturday, you will receive a $15 electronic gift card which can be redeemed at 1000's of business, including Hulu, Amazon, Lift and Spotify!

Please don't park on Montague Street between Clinton and Henry Street beginning at 9am so we can make room for the Bloodmobile. Once the mobile is parked, the street will be reopened to cars.

High Street Subway Station Repairs at Cadman Plaza West Entrance

The MTA is beginning work at the Cadman Plaza West side of the High Street A /C station.  From 10:00 p.m. Friday, October 13th until 5:00 Monday morning, October 16th, the Cadman Plaza West side of the station will be closed, and customers will be asked to utilize the Adams Street side for access to the station.

Beginning Monday, October 16th, there will be one one staircase and one escalator (in the "up" direction) available for customer usage, while the other 2 escalators are closed.

The scheduled completion date for all three escalators to be replaced is early Summer 2024.

This effort builds on the work the BHA has been doing since 2020 to engage and educate our community around public realm issues. Improvements to the public realm are investments in sustainability, public health, and community connectedness and well-being. And, they often go hand-in-hand with a thriving small business community.

The BHA is Being Honored 

We are thrilled to report that the BHA, along with the Service Collective, will be the recipients of this year's Sprit and Service awards given by Saint Ann & the Holy Trinity Church. 

The awards will be given at the church's November 2nd Gala & Fundraiser, "It's About Time." You can learn more about the event and buy tickets using the button below. 

St. Ann & the Holy Trinity is a National Historic Landmark and was recognized by the World Monuments Fund as a site important to the city and to architectural history. You can learn more about the restoration and preservation work needed at St. Ann here.

Tree Care Captain Webinar  |  October 17th, 6:00PM - 7:30PM. Tree Care Captains are advanced, independent volunteers trained by NYC Parks to care for street trees and organize their communities to help care for our urban forest.  Register to become a Tree Care Captain.

84th Precinct Community Council Meeting | October 17th.  Pizza served @ 6:45PM, Meeting begins promptly at 7PM Brooklyn Borough Hall, 209 Joralemon Street.

Pumpkin Party! | Saturday, October 21st, 12PM - 3PM.  Come to the Poplar Street Community Garden for pumpkin carving, crafts and pumpkin ice cream!  Email the Poplar Street Community Garden to reserve your preferred entry time (on the hour and 1/2 hour)

Daffodil Planting at Cadman Park | Sunday, October 22nd, 10AM - 1PM. Sign up by emailing the Cadman Park Conservancy. 

Java with Jo Anne | Wednesday, Oct 26th, 9:30AM - 11AM @ Vineapple on Pineapple Street. Join State Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon and your neighbors for a cup of coffee at Vineapple to discuss community issues and current events.

BHA Annual Halloween Parade | Saturday, Oct 28th @ 11AM.  Meet at the Clark Street entrance to the Promenade. Raindate Sunday, Oct 29th. We can't wait!

Recycle Your E-Waste | Sunday, Oct 29th, 10 AM - 2 PM  at First Unitarian Church (Pierrepont Street between Monroe Place and Clinton Street)  Learn what can be donated or call 212-477-4022.
