We are thrilled to support the Montague Business Improvement District and the Department of Transportation to bring back car-free Open Streets on Montague. Montague Open Streets kicks off Saturday May 6th and will run through Saturday October 28th with a summer hiatus from August through Labor Day weekend. On these days, Montague Street (from Hicks Street to Clinton Street) will be closed to traffic from 10am-7pm (an emergency vehicle lane will be open). While it started as a way for New Yorkers to socialize and gather safely outdoors during the pandemic, Open Streets has turned into eagerly-anticipated outdoor gatherings in hundreds of neighborhoods across the city.
Open Streets is not just about activating the street. It is also about giving community members a place to enjoy their public outdoor space and support our local businesses. There is some great entertainment lined up, a host of activities for all ages and we will be bringing back some great themed days (such as dog days!) from last season. But equally important, there will also be Saturdays when it's more quiet, the bistro chairs and tables are set up, the cars are gone and our community can simply come out and enjoy the open and unpolluted space.
We will be sharing more details soon and look forward to seeing you on Montague Street May 6th and for many more Saturdays to come through the fall. If you would like to host a free activity for the community during Open Streets, contact the Montague BID |
