In response, NYC Parks has placed natural stone barriers at the all of the entrances to the Promenade with the exception of Pierrepont Street, where movable barriers will be placed to allow NYC Parks and NYPD vehicles to enter/exit as needed. We have heard from a number of people about the problem of bikes (and occasionally motorcycles!) on the Promenade. The BHA has requested new signs from NYC Parks to indicate that biking is not permited on the Promenade and we are told the new signs will be installed in the next month or two. Additionally, the Parks Department Forestry team recently removed two dead and broken trees from the Promenade garden between Remsen and Montague and did some much-needed pruning on another of the aging Honey Locust trees there. Although it's always sad to lose a mature tree, in this case it was deemed necessary as the dangling branches were truly hazardous. Please report dangerous or downed trees & branches through the 311 app on your phone. Once you've reported the problem and have a service number, let the BHA know and we can help track it for you. |
