Just over two weeks ago we launched the Brooklyn Heights Together Fund. Our goal was to raise $25,000 to distribute to vulnerable members of our community – those who had lost jobs in Brooklyn Heights. We are beyond thrilled to report that Brooklyn Heights showed up in a big way! Contributions to the fund now total over $42,000 from approximately 125 different donors in amounts ranging from $8 - $5,000. This money is making a real difference in people’s lives. A former employee at Henry's End restaurant reported that the Brooklyn Heights Together grant is helping him purchase groceries for his family as he waits for his very delayed unemployment check. Another recipient moved to Brooklyn from Syria in 2000 and has been working at Damascus Bakery for the last few years but was laid off. He reports being incredibly grateful to the community for supporting him during this difficult time. Other businesses whose former employees have benefitted include Joe Coffee, Brooklyn Heights Wine Bar, Area Yoga, Imagine Early Leaning Center. And the applications keep coming in as word is spreading! On behalf of the BHA we THANK YOU for your generosity and kindness. There are many things that make Brooklyn Heights a beautiful neighborhood, but chief among those is our community-minded spirit! Please help us spread the word to additional business owners and qualifying workers. You can watch the Brooklyn News12 feature on Brooklyn Heights Together, or read the coverage from The Brooklyn Paper.
