A big thanks to all of the community members who made it to City Hall yesterday. We had a very strong showing and definitely made our concerns heard! The BHA's testimony highlighted what we see as the immediate next steps: 1. The creation of a governing body made up of local, state, and federal partners who will work together to implement a comprehensive and transformative plan. 2. A task force must be set up so that community representatives can meet routinely with the DOT to be apprised of its plan for repairs, and to have input into that plan. 3. An immediate reduction of the roadway from six to four lanes. At the same time, the City must implement the kinds of travel demand policies that will enable this configuration. Watch the BHA's interview on CBS News NY this morning. _______________________________________________________________ Meanwhile, Comptroller Scott Stringer has sent a letter to DOT Commissioner Polly Trottenberg asking for details about the DOT's immediate BQE repair plans and timeline. The letter also calls for a taskforce (see point number 2 above) to enable transparecy and community engagement in the repair plans. The letter was also signed by Congresswoman Velazquez, Senator Kavanagh, and Assemblymembers Simon and Mosley. We thank the elected officials for this effort. Read the letter here.
