As BHA President Martha Dietz announced at the meeting, we won the battle of the Promenade Highway. The "innovative" solution advanced by the DOT over a year ago is officially dead, so your "No Highway to Hell" posters can come down -- but the fight is not over yet!
Because the issue is so much bigger than Brooklyn Heights, the BHA has been working closely with ABW and CHA to united other groups and neighborhood associations in a coalition called the BQET to advocate for a transformative solution to the BQE, one which does not simply re-build and perpetuate the outdated highway which has scarred and polluted dozens of neighborhoods from Brooklyn to Queens since the 1950s. We are 12 groups in total and the list is growing! |
