The BQE Town Hall tonight will begin promptly at 7 PM at Plymouth Church, 57 Orange Street. To accommodate what we anticipate will be a large audience, doors will open at 6:30 PM. We advise you to come early.
The Brooklyn Heights Association and A Better Way, co-sponsors of the Town Hall, will be joined by Comptroller Scott Stringer, Council Speaker Corey Johnson, Borough President Eric Adams, and Council Member Stephen Levin.
Presentations will also be made by Marc Wouters, who has developed with the BHA a temporary alternative that would move traffic instead from on top of the Promenade to the eastern edge of the park, and from the Bjorke Ingels Group (BIG), an internationally recognized architecture firm, whose proposal would entail a decked-over BQE at ground level as a base for a major expansion of Brooklyn Bridge Park.
By attending tonight, you will help the BHA and A Better Way send DOT these simple messages: 1) the 6-lane Promenade Highway must be abandoned; 2) both of its current plans are unacceptable; and 3) DOT needs to take seriously the creative alternatives being proposed by architects, planners and the community.
At the Town Hall tonight, tell our elected officials that we need a better solution for the BQE.
