Some exciting things are happening on Montague Street. Dining options are expanding with a branch of BK Lobster opening at 142 Montague and Din Soup Dumplings opening above Lychee Nut at 162. The former Heights Café/Giulia space will soon host Felice, a Tuscan restaurant that is part of the SA Hospitality Group. The BHA met recently with Felice’s Jacopo Giustiniani and Giulia Guarducci who are thrilled to be opening in Brooklyn Heights and can’t wait to welcome everyone in their new space. And the word on the street is that L’Appartement 4F is taking possession of their oven this week and expects to start construction inside 155 Montague next week! 
 
In the meantime, Le French Tart Deli, which the BHA helped bring to 44 Henry Street is selling beaucoup de croissants, crepes, and more! Inga’s Bar (also a BHA-recruited business) is working towards a December opening in the old Jack the Horse space on Hicks and Cranberry. Anyone else looking forward to sipping a cocktail and watching the snow fall from one of those big windows facing Hicks Street?
 
Of course, vacancies remain an issue on Montague St and beyond. The BHA continues to actively court and assist new businesses interested in opening in Brooklyn Heights including cafes, bookstores, bike retailers, and more. You can help by spreading the word about what a wonderful community this is to business owners and entrepreneurs who might want to open in the neighborhood. 

A majority of people who took our online Montague Street survey last year said they are interested in various streetscape improvements like more seating, bike parking, and a better experience for pedestrians overall.
 
Building on that initial research, the BHA and the Montague Street BID are partnering on a project led by the transportation gurus at Sam Schwartz Engineering to explore options for creating a more vibrant and welcoming street that can be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike, and that supports small, local businesses. Sam Schwartz Engineering will conduct a series of transportation and data analyses, including a parking inventory, an assessment of pedestrian and vehicular flow and activity, and a study of curbside regulations and usage. They will use this data and research to develop and recommend a number of streetscape and traffic improvements for the community's consideration.
 
We need your help!
Some of the first data to be collected is a short survey of customers along Montague Street to understand what attracts them to the street, what transportation mode(s) they use to arrive, and their opinions about a range of potential changes to the sidewalk and roadway.

This survey will help BHA, the Montague Street BID, and the businesses themselves better understand who their customer base is, how they get there, and what they value. We need volunteers to collect this information from passersby on Montague St. at specific times of the day on Wednesday November 17th, and Saturday November 20th. There will also be a brief online training for volunteers on Monday November 15th from 12-1pm.
